Alternating Sumo Squat Sumo refers to the width of the feet not necessarily the position of the toes. However, the vast majority of folks will need to turn toes out roughly 35-45° to reach depth with knees tracking. There is a frontal plane aspect to this. I originally posted this as the step just being an opportunity of weight transfer and caring width and toe turnouts. There is supposed to be a frontal plane aspect of descending/ascending as the step out happens, thus getting a gradual later
