The dumbbell clean (technically a hang power clean). Intention is to express power at the hip on an external load. Use full extention to maximize power output, then retract the hips to sink under the load at a point of it’s apex. Then using the legs to stand the load upright. While there is a shrug and an aggressive extension at the ankles, we generally don’t cue that much. When athletes think about those features it tends to slow the movement and make it choppy. KISS principle. Stuck to simple cuing; “Jump the weight up and land under,” “jump under the weights,” “tall before you get small”… Be as creative as you want and find something that jives with your speech.
